Students should organize their research so that they can form a central thesis.

Students will need to have a rich question. It should
be a "big idea" that illustrates the impact of historical
events and individuals on a particular historical phenomenon.

Students need to know how to access various kinds of primary source documents. They also have to have the strategies for knowing what kind of information each kind of document can yield.

First the students should see a sample of an exit project with exactly what you want them to do. From there the students need to budget their time and organize their resources. They need to brainstorm their ideas and get to work putting everything together.

My students have been good in finding the correct information for their projects. It has been a bit of a challenge however teaching them how to make this information their own and citing sources.

Their project needs to have a well developed topic (thesis statement).

Students will need to define their topic and identify useful websites.

Students need to know exactly what is expected of them. Detailed rubrics and a sample will be helpful.

What is the required length of the written portion of the Exit Project?

Teachers must divide the requirements across the school year. For example, students must have a topic and 2 sources by the end of 1st quarter. 2nd quarter might be the completed research outline and thesis. 3rd quarter -- essay. 4th quarter -- visual and presentation.

Just an idea!!

I think my students need to have a lot of guidance in order to successfully conduct research for this project. I need to use a blog and trackstar to guide my students towards the research they need to be successful.

Teachers will need to help students research information and organize their ideas, so that the project will not be too overwhelming.

Students need to have the background knowledge to form a workable research question.
